In follow up to the 2023 CEIU Ontario Presidents Training and Conference and with recent leadership changes in the Ontario Region, we are now accepting nominations for a member to fill a vacancy on the Women's Standing Committee. The position is for a term ending on December 31, 2024. Delegates from this years Presidents Conference will be voting to fill this vacancy.

Black History Month, as the name implies, is a time to reflect upon the legacy of Black people in all facets of life, which has long since been glossed over, or only acknowledged from the lens of anti-black oppression, within mainstream schools of history. Indeed, it’s important to know the past, because it informs our present and our future.  

However, some scholars, anti-oppression activists and academic institutions with the support of their local Black communities, have suggested that equal recognition be given to Black Futures Month.The following article excerpt from Queen’s University’s Gazette in Kingston Ontario describes the proposed observance:   

Your 2024 CEIU Ontario Regional Health, Safety & Security Committee is holding a Town Hall on March 4, 5 and 6, 2024 to introduce the committee members and provide an informal update.  Our goal is to build a new network amongst ourselves that will support, share, and develop our knowledge. We will also be highlighting a few upcoming events you may be interested in. Please see zoom meeting details below.

PSAC Ontario will be holding the first ever “Building Leadership Knowledge Summit” from March 21-23, 2024, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (123 Queen Street W, Toronto, ON).

The CEIU Ontario Regional Women's Committee is holding in-person training from Friday, March 1 to Sunday, March 3 in Toronto, Ontario. 

The deadline to register is February 9, 2024 4 PM EST.

This year, CEIU Ontario members are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians, past and present. Members can take this time to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Canadians with African and Caribbean heritage who, throughout history, have done so much to make Turtle Island (Canada) the culturally rich, compassionate and prosperous nation we know today. It is also an opportunity for all of us to learn about the wide range of Black experiences and the vital roles this community has played throughout our shared history.

The Canada Employment and Immigration Union (CEIU) Ontario Region, a component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), held its 2023 Southwest District Conference at the DoubleTree Hilton in Windsor, ON from October 13 to October 15, 2023.

At the conference this year, there were 12 delegates representing 8 of the 11 locals from the Southwest region in Ontario in addition to 4 members from the CEIU Ontario Regional Council. There were a handful of first-time delegates as well.
